Radhika (Shivani Tanksale), is a fashion photographer who works closely with Andy (an event manager), and for a show the duo manage to get on board the sizzling Meera (Sunny Leone). Meera, is a model, whose ramp show is a big hit. Over a night of drunken revelry, Radhika and Mira bond. On the shoot next day, lights go out when Mira is alone and she faints. When Radhika takes her to doctor, she finds out that Mira is claustrophobic. On prodding, Mira reveals that her parents passed away in a plane crash which she survived. The trauma of it lingers even in her present. Mira is offered by Andy a fab shoot in Rajasthan. But since she has a fear of planes, she declines. Radhika and Andy get her drunk and get her to India.
Meanwhile in Bombay, life is getting more difficult for Karan, who gets persistent dreams of someone whipping him. In an attempt to figure why, his friend takes him to a pandit (nari-shakti scholar) who tells him that his pain is rooted in his past life. There's an unfinished business that needs to be completed.
Mira meet Ranveer Singh (Mohit Ahlawat), a prince, in Rajasthan. The two eventually fall in love and get married. Ranveer is in middle of a property dispute with his cousin Vikram Singh (Jas Arora) - who doesn't leave one instance of leching at Mira.
Karan travels through his past and figures out that he was Shravan (Rajneesh Duggal), 300 years ago. He was in love with a girl named Leela but his master Bhairao (Rahul Dev) (known for his artistic skills) adopts her as his muse. She becomes the object of his lust. Bhairav begins making a statue of Leela. But when the statue is complete, she excitedly gets Shravan to see it. Shravan, who decides not overpower his master chides Leela for it. Bhairav discovers that Leela is in love with Shravan. In a fit of rage, Bhairav kills both Shravan and Leela. Karan travels to Jaisalmer to figure out why his past is still haunting him.
He goes to Bhairav Kaksha (a place of dispute between Ranveer and Vikram). Vikram finds Karan and he takes him to Ranveer. Mira recognizes him as he had composed songs for her ramp act before. Karan tried to tell Mira about his real intentions of excavating the truth. When Mira is eventually told by Karan about his past and their relationship then, she takes offense and asks him to leave. Karan then plays a song that takes Mira back into their past and she recognizes the incidents Karan was telling her about.
Mira and Karan gets kidnapped by Vikram who is looking for a statue that Bhairao made of Leela. The current market cost of the statue is 1000 crores and the greedy Vikram wants the moolah to himself. When there, Mira tries to recollect things from the past. When asked about the statue, Karan reveals that the statue was hidden behind a wall. When Vikram gets to the statue, he is killed by Ranveer. Karan tries to woo Mira, but Mira doesn't receive well his luring. She slaps him and makes it clear that the Ranveer is the love of her life. It turns out Karan was wrong all along. He was actually the reincarnation of Bhairao and not of Shravan (who got reincarnated in Ranveer). Karan tries to redeem his ills by committing suicide but Mira and Ranveer don't let him.

Summary:
Daanish (Dhanush), a mute whose childhood dream was to become a Bollywood actor, reaches Mumbai to fulfill his dream. He tries to enter the film city there, but gets stopped by the guards there. He trespasses the gate and comes across an Assistant Director, Akshara Pandey (Akshara Haasan), who is amazed by his acting. She approaches a director for requesting a role for Daanish in a film, but the director refuses after he comes to know that Daanish cannot speak.
Daanish and Akshara go to a voice hospital to get his check-up, but doctors declare his vocal chords are fully paralyzed and are unable to be treated. But, they assure him that with their advanced technology, Danish could have a 'voice transfer'. They fit a chip inside Daanish's larynx with which a person could transfer their voice into the chip, and when the person would speak, the words would also come from Danish's mouth. They set out to search for a person who could speak for Daanish every time, when they come across an old drunkard, Amitabh Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan), lying on the footpath. Amitabh also wanted to become an actor but was rejected because of his voice.
Daanish approaches the director again, who agrees to launch him this time, but wanted him to change his name. Daanish searches for a name and concludes on Shamitabh (a portmanteau of DaaniSH and AMITABH), giving credit to the person who provided him with voice. Daanish makes a couple of films and turns out to be a hit actor to which Amitabh realises was only because of him and an ego problem between the two starts to rise which comes to a head after Amitabh pulls a gun on a police and is jailed while Daanish is at London for a lecture at a university. They both separate after a confrontation at the airport and start making their own films, where Daanish plays the role of a mute person and Amitabh dubbing the voice for another actor. Both films fail commercially.
Akshara makes both of them realise they are nothing without each other and gets them together for a film titled Sorry, which she is directing. Meanwhile, Akshara and Daanish tell that they like each other. Amitabh and Daanish are on the way to the venue of the press meet for Sorry, and on the way become engrossed in a fun conversation when their car is hit by a trailer and grievously injures both Amitabh and Daanish. Amitabh's larynx damages completely making him unable to speak. On gaining consciousness, Amitabh sees Akshara by his bedside and enquires about Daanish. Akshara leads him to the very same graveyard where Amitabh lived and he discovers that Daanish had died in the accident. Amitabh begins to verbalise his feelings but is unable to do due to his damaged larynx. He later paces around Daanish's grave with the script of Sorry, imagining that Daanish is still alive and practising his lines for the film.
